End Of The Road
Two different paths we had trodden
To meet up just before the end
We were two strangers leaning
Against each other
For we didn’t have the strength
To stand on our own.
Our hands met trembling
Fingers intertwined
I looked into your eyes
And you into mine
Through the dirt grime and blood
I could make out that you were a pretty woman.
You pressed my hand for reassurance
And I yours
In this sea of despair
We created an island of love and peace.
Oh where was my pretty wife
And three children?
I did not know
You too should have surely lost a husband
And children to this terrible war.
There were milling bodies everywhere
Loud wailing in anguish and
Most of all the fear was
Like a fog all around us
And so was death, immanent and certain.
Across the field
I could see scared faces
Peering over long rifles
At us.
They were the enemy
Young lads,
Maybe as old as my eldest boy
Our hell was soon to end
And theirs only to begin.
Oh woe unto you
Motivators of hatred and war
What achievements would you have
Over the suffering of your fellow men
What logic can sooth your minds
And give you sleep and peace.
As through a haze I heard the barking of an order
By the last of our will
We stood straight and tall
Two strangers yet lovers beaten not broken
Time stood still
To honor us
The bullets spewed out of their guns
But took a long time in reaching
For in that gap,
We had left and gone to heaven.
The Horror Of War
Barbarians wearing brown
Bootless Cultureless
Unshaven brutes
Accompanined by loud noise
Of tanks and trucks
Uncouth laughing swaggering
Unchallenged, sure of their power
First they came marching
Then in their trucks and tanks
Finaly they came sauntering
Looting plundering
Sniggering Abusing
Ridiculing Raping
Destroying humans and lives
Fulfilling their pasion for lawlessness
Fear all round abject fear.
Torture, Scarcity,
Unpredictability, depravity
They came marching up our garden
I was shaking and shivering
A lass of just thirteen
My mother held me tight
A palm over my mouth
Another held over my neck
With a knife sharp
My pappa was in Europe
When the invasion came
Leaving mamma n me
The captain marched to our door step
With a long paper
Caled out momma's name
And shouted
"Open up bitch or we brake the door in"
Momma whisperedin ma ear
"Baby you want pain now
or all your life'?
I replied "Now Momma"
The knife sunk in
There was no shaking
No pain only a lightness
Relief, rest, freedom from pain.
The Warrior Prince Of Travancore
Lay the crown prince,
As if in sweet slumber,
Barely a lad,
Not yet a man,
Grasped by death ,
In timeless glory,
Full shock of black curly hair,
Framing, a face of smiling innocence,
Never kissed by womens lovely lips
Other than his mothers the queens.
Always the warrior,
Always the patriot,
Fighting the enemy.
Elevated kingdom on hillocks and plains,
Luxuriated by rain and sun,
Exotic greens and spices abundant,
Envy of neighbors from barren lands,
Collecting armies of brutes with common,
Hate for goodness and grace,
Stricking, at goodness as mistaken weakness,
Came in hordes, unnumbered,
Through passes in mountains,
Raising the fearful battle cry,
Bringing chaos to order,
And ignominy to honor,
Spreading dread and fear,
To war hardened warriors,
To leave the challenge to innocent youth.
Untouched by fear of defeat of death,
Laughing at the enemy in nonchalance,
Defending not life but the motherland
As if the mothers own purity,
And the fathers own honor,
Were threatened,
Rode the warrior the prince
Into battle.
A lost cause
Which was considered thus
But turned tables with unconcerned
Ends, the cleaving of the enemy into
Two halves, and the fleeing of both,
A victory for the kingdom
A loss for humankind,
And for a mother,
And many mothers,
For in the salvation of a kingdom,
Lay a Martyr,
Who was not yet a man.
Not a tear was shed,
Nor a word spoken,
For to do so would be,
To measure the greatness,
Of a spirit, unfettered,
In his love for glory
And love for motherland.
Hold Me When I Fall
As you.
Do not look for me else where
When you fall and get dusty
Do not look else where
Look within I’ll be there
Its not bad to fall,
Its not bad to be dusty,
Its what those others tell you
That bothers you.
Its OK to be bent,
Its Ok to think that
You’ll never be put back together,
But Im the one who’s gonna hug you,
From within,
And Im the one whos gonna straighten you out.
Im the peace that passeth all understanding,
The excitement that quickens your breath
Do not look to those others who tell you otherwise,
Be with me, your own self.

Walk This Earth With Me
In the palm of my hand,
To feel the wetness,
To feel the throb of a million possibilities,
Growing in myriad twirls,
Of green bursts with rare leafs
Of different shapes and hue,
I love to see them reach for the sun,
Breathin the same air as me,
I love to feel her my earth
Under my feet,
Changing texture from sand to hard rock,
I love to feel the air in my breath,
Sweet, in and out,
To feel the sun set in
Mellowed shades of orange,
I love to feel the waves of my ocean
Lapping at my feet,
And then to be engulfed in its midst
I feel one with my brothers the animals,
In harmony with all that is around,
And with my friends the birds,
Singing different tunes in different pitches,
To listen to the brooks,
To float on the lakes,
I feel most of all for my fellow humans,
Caught up in a circle of madness,
Round and round in power and control,
In richeses and pride,
In hollow pursuits,
That fold up with time.
But most of all I hate to leave
This beautiful life,
On this shore of evergreen,
Who knows when I will come again,
To live once more, to love once more,
To weep once more,
To hope once more,
When will you come again?
To walk this earth with me?
To sing this song with me?
To carry this load with me?
To love this earth with me?

Bliss
And the mind listens;
Where love moves unreined,
Uncalculated,
There I will meet you
O kindred spirit
In an ever spinning
Spiral of ectasy.
Freedom
Doesnt even matter what you think of yourself
For you are far beyond opinions
You are ever free
Cherish that freedom
Cos its worth more than
All the money in the world.

A Dream
Out of my body, into a lighter one,
And I could fly, by just thinking,
About it.
I soared the skies,
Flying with kites and sparrows,
Gliding with eagles, swooping with hawks,
Skimmed over the ocean waves,
And just out of curiosity,
Dived deep into the ocean,
And explored the playful schools,
Of gleaming fish in the filtered sunlight.
Wherever I went I could observe,
But wasn’t observed.
I could witness but couldn’t partake.
A great sadness came over me,
I longed to touch,
To love and be loved,
To be vulnerable,
And to be placed,
In the safe keeping of My loved one,
My innermost Love,
My own self,
In the guise of you,
And him, and her,
And everyone.
Of the humankind.
And of nature too.
The trees, mountains and valleys,
Of the insect and animal life therein,
My self, in the harmony of sound.
In the sadness,I settled near a sitting place,
Neath a tree, a bountiful tree,
A glad old man was seated next.
Convinced that I couldn’t be seenBy him or heard,
I thought outloud,
Wouldn’t it be great,
If I could just talk with him.
Why not said he,
For I can hear you, and you me,
And I know,
That you want,
Most of all,
To love and be loved.
So shall it be,
Wake from your Dream, from your slumber,
Go back to your world,
Love and be loved,
Return when you have Truly loved,
And have been loved,
Lived and have died.

Once I traveled to a far away place
Where a lot of water
Had gathered together as a lake,
And out of its edges mountains grew
With towering peaks and wooded trees
There was a cabin by the edge
Of the water,
A wooden cabin where I stayed
At dawn I stood at the porch
And gazed over the water
The still water
A wisp of fog
Hung over it,
Unmoving and still
The mountain side
Was reflected on the clear water
The whole scene was caught
As if in a picture,
With me in it,
Silent and still.
Then the spirit of the waters
Smiled,
The spirit of the mountains
Bowed in benediction
And the spirit of my self
Communed with them
In silent bliss.
Along came a gust of wind
Splitting the fog,
Rippling the water
And snapping me out of my reverie
I felt cold
It was chilly
I pulled my clothes around me
Tighter, entered the cabin,
And closed the door.

The White Rose
Lived here for a while and ascended again
Her sweet fragrance wafted over this earthly domain
For a brief spell, too brief
Anyone who came across her would be
Transformed by her goodness
And anyone who hurt her would
Be hard put for recompense
The white rose was frail and strong
Meek and chivalrous
Beautiful and thorny
Graceful and harmonious
Beauty and stature came naturally
Compassion and giving
Was her very nature.
Living in her proximity
I took heaven for granted
To inhale her fragrance for free
I was unable to fathom its exquisiteness
The white rose was too fragile
To conceive me in her womb
To survive the tempest
Of my growing up
She left me with memories
For an abode more suited
To her nature
An ethereal one
Even now she smiles
From the picture on the wall,
And she protects from her heavenly home.
Being In Harmony
One of the most important things in life is to be in harmony. Why is being in harmony so important you may ask? Being in harmony is important because that is the only way that we can know ourselves. Knowing oneself apart from the body, mind, relationships, possessions positions and all the other multitudinous things with which we associate ascribe and subscribe to be ourself. Maybe the more important of the two ie (being in harmony and self knowledge) is self knowledge. Harmony being a means for self knowledge.
Life is a continuous flux of transactions and relations between our self and countless other things and ideas, animate, inanimate, tangible and intangible isn’t it? My relation with my body, my thoughts, people around me, events and happenings, highs and lows, successes and failures, etc, a constant exchange of information between the me, mine, you, yours, ours, theirs etc.
From a mundane level of being, doing, becoming, possessing and losing, I can also choose to stand apart and watch all these so called happenings happen to and between the me and them, between me, and that, between mine and theirs. On one hand while I am completely immersed and involved as a participant, on the other I am a participant but also an observer.
How are these transactions taking place between me and my friends? Me and my colleagues? Me and my car? Me and my PC? Me and my wife? Me and my body? Me and my mind? And a million different people and things that I associate with? Is it good or is it bad? Am I calm or Am I disturbed?
What is the purpose of these countless people and things that I transact with? Isnt the only constant in all of this “ME”? Isnt the purpose self knowledge?
In all of our transactions we cannot effect the outcome, but we can observe how we react, whether we are in harmony or otherwise. Am I in harmony with the food I eat? With the air I breathe? With my children? My parents? With the clothes I wear, the work I do, the blog I write and a million other things which happen continuously in my life. That observation can change the way we resonate with the things around us, with the vibrations moving closer in harmony. When all the notes of the orchestra of life move in perfect harmony like the strings of a thousand violins produce one note and it sounds like one instrument one player, then in that harmony the self or the “I” is revealed don’t you think?
