The Horror Of War

They came in hordes
Barbarians wearing brown
Bootless Cultureless
Unshaven brutes
Accompanined by loud noise
Of tanks and trucks
Uncouth laughing swaggering
Unchallenged, sure of their power
First they came marching
Then in their trucks and tanks
Finaly they came sauntering
Looting plundering
Sniggering Abusing
Ridiculing Raping
Destroying humans and lives
Fulfilling their pasion for lawlessness
Fear all round abject fear.
Torture, Scarcity,
Unpredictability, depravity

They came marching up our garden
I was shaking and shivering
A lass of just thirteen
My mother held me tight
A palm over my mouth
Another held over my neck
With a knife sharp
My pappa was in Europe
When the invasion came
Leaving mamma n me
The captain marched to our door step
With a long paper
Caled out momma's name
And shouted
"Open up bitch or we brake the door in"
Momma whisperedin ma ear
"Baby you want pain now
or all your life'?
I replied "Now Momma"
The knife sunk in
There was no shaking
No pain only a lightness
Relief, rest, freedom from pain.
